Eastlake
Description
Bordering the eastern shores of Lake Union north of downtown, Eastlake is home to one of Seattle’s largest houseboat populations. Recognized as a Seattle neighborhood in the 1890s, Eastlake became a hub of industry. Boeing’s first factory was located here. In 1962, Interstate 5 was pushed through, forever changing the Eastern edge of Eastlake. The neighborhood is a charming and eclectic mix of houseboats, single-family homes, apartments, townhouses, condos and small businesses. Eastlake Avenue offers a variety of coffee shops, restaurants and retail. Over the past twenty years, residents of Eastlake have worked hard to conserve the character of the neighborhood by planting trees along its’ streets and developing shoreline parks.
